Hanging always seemed like the right form of execution to me. Not too barbaric, fairly quick, but still primitive and shocking enough to be unsettling. Lethal injection is bad.

S'not quick if your doing it wrong. Or "right" depending on the hangman. Either you hang slow, and suffocate not so quickly and in pain, or you get your neck snapped. Naturally the latter is preferable.

Says of course, the guy who calls himself Gallows.

Or the hangman misjudges your weight or the height of the drop, and your head gets ripped from your body. That's always a crowd-pleaser.

Yeah, well, hanging has always seemed like a fucked up, horrific way to die. I mean, come on, the person is going to die, okay? Isn't that enough? Give them an overdose of opiates and be done with it.

I'm gonna copy and paste what I said to another poster, and tell me what you think.

Sure. Lethal injection is bad because it sanitizes and sterilizes executions. It lets us, collectively, as a society, watch an execution as if we were watching a fast-acting sleeping pill.

Lethal injection allows us to not dwell on the fact that we, as a society, have seen fit to kill another human being - either for the betterment of our surroundings, or as punishment (you decide). It is a weighty, terrible thing, and lethal injection allows us to avoid dealing with this issue.

Actually, I agree, in the sense that executing people is a huge, weighty decision, and it shouldn't be something people avoid or shrug off. However, I'm thinking about the person who is going to be executed. They are going to die. That's huge. I see little reason to make the death itself any more horrific than it has to be. The fact that they were there, and then they are gone - that's the horror. I fail to see why the method itself should be cruel, since the executed is in fact suffering the ultimate penalty.

Because if we sterilize it, and make it look happy and medical, it's far, far easier to ignore the real issues at stake here. Execution -is- cruel, no matter how much we whitewash it. There are even multiple cases going through court right now protesting lethal injection on the grounds that it still IS cruel and unusual; we just can't tell, because we pump the criminal full of paralyzing drugs before we give 'em the ones that light their veins on fire (figuratively).

Executions are cruel, always. Whether they're also just is a separate question, but the more we are able to detach ourselves from the act, the more we dehumanize ourselves.

You and I would apparently be the exceptions. :)

i believe most states use a 3 drug cocktail. the first just paralyses the victim, the second collapses the lungs, and the third causes massive hemmoraging in their vital organs.
since i'm pretty sure that there aren't any perfect people who currently inhabit this planet, execution generally seems to be a bad thing. i have trouble justifying the deaths of innocent people to make this world safer, or serve justice, or whatever other reasons we have to kill each other.
If our government is going to kill us though i think it should be with a bullet to the back of the head. its quick enough that its merciful compared to sny other methods of execution i can think of, and its messy enough that we still know we're killing each other.
